"Because we simply can never have enough web browsers, Google is introducing their own. I suppose it proves the axiom that if you repeat a rumor long enough, it eventually becomes true. Their explanation for its creation is that our web browsers have become hubs for growing part of our computing experience. We have office applications, email, chat, games, and social networking all within our browsers. This is all certainly true, but the real motivation seems rather evident. Google wanted to improve their user experience. So many of their product offerings are wrapped up in web browsers that their perceived quality is determined by the quality of the browsers running them. It also gives them a fall back recommendation when users have problems. “What browser are you using?” “Try Google Chrome and let me know if the issue persists.”Chrome is taking a new approach that may prove superior in many cases (such as treating each tab as its own process). It’s taking ideas from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox, though exactly what it takes from both hasn’t been specified. It is open source though, so we’ll be able to figure that out soon enough. Unfortunately, despite roots and in two cross platform products, the first version will only be Windows only. Hopefully those Linux and Mac versions promised come soon."Source: Macusers.com
